Scalby Tennis Club Mixed teams net victories
In a busy and successful week for the teams from Scalby Lawn Tennis Club, there were victories for both Mixed sides and the Men’s B team.
Tuesday evening saw the Mixed B side making the trip to face Driffield LTC’s grass courts.

Scalby adapted well to the surface and produced an impressive all-round performance to secure an emphatic 8-1 victory.
Jack Boddy and Lauren Asquith set the tone early on, taking maximum points from their three matches with a composed and consistent display.

John Mathers and Helen Creaser matched that achievement with another clean sweep, while Cath Reid and Matt Haxby added two more valuable points from a possible three to complete the scoring.
Creaser and Reid both made significant contributions to victory. Partnering Mathers, Creaser’s aggressive play at the net proved decisive throughout the evening and helped the pair maintain control in a number of tightly contested games. Reid’s strong groundstrokes laid the foundations for her and Haxby’s performance. The Mixed A team were also in fine form as they delivered one of their best performances of the season to record a 7-2 win at home to title contenders Market Weighton C.
Millie Sideaway and Toby Shaw were playing together for the first time but immediately looked comfortable as a partnership, taking all three of their matches. The pair combined well throughout, with confident serving and solid baseline play helping them make a strong impression.
Louise Tomlinson and Rich Stacey also finished with a maximum three points. Tomlinson was particularly effective, producing a series of accurate lobs and punishing anything short with aggressive attacking play at the net.
Simon and Julie Boddy completed the scoring for Scalby, battling hard to secure the final point in a close-fought contest.
Thursday’s action saw the Men’s B team travel to win 5-4 at Malton B in another competitive encounter after several close rubbers.
Nathan Smith and Rob Tucker each contributed two points, while John Mathers and Chris Northey also picked up two victories with some steady doubles play. The decisive point came from Tony Owen and Gareth Mason, who held their nerve in a hard-fought match to seal the overall win.
The Men’s A travelled to the grass courts of Sledmere, and returned to Scalby with a 7-2 win.
Skipper Jack Boddy alongside regular partner Alex Wray played some great tennis to come away with all the points available. New pairing Tobie Hillier and Steve Jepson followed their example, losing only 1 round to Sledmere’s first pair in a final round battle.
Toby Shaw, alongside Rich Stacey for the first time served superbly but both players struggled with the surface all evening and despite a narrow first round loss, contributed a single point.
