St Johns Burlington Christmas Tree Festival to light up people’s lives

Once again, the successful Christmas Tree Festival is all set to light up St Johns Burlington Methodist Church (next to Aldi) from late November to mid-December.

The organising team has been working hard to bring that extra sparkle to this year’s event based on the theme ‘Christmas Through the Ages’.

The event will be officially opened by Bridlington and the Wolds MP Charlie Dewhirst on Friday, November 27 at 7pm, followed by a concert with Quay Academy School Choir and church organist Stephen Parker.

The festival runs until Sunday, December 13. Entry is £3 adults (under 16s free).

Team Tree is hoping for a great turn-out from the local community and can’t wait to open the doors and welcome visitors.

The team’s members would love the town to come out in force and enjoy all the festive fun they’ve got lined up.

In addition to a forest of twinkling trees, there’s a free 'Find the Snowman' treasure hunt for children, musical entertainment and seasonal refreshments.

Church members crafted hundreds of peace doves last year which will be installed in the church balcony and in another area, there will be a special walk-through featuring scenes from the Nativity to Mediaeval and Tudor to a Dickensian theme with mood lighting.

A spokesperson said: “Christmas is a special time of year, and the town’s Christmas Tree Festival makes it even more so. It’s definitely one of the highlights of the season and not only raises a lot of smiles but also cash for good causes.

“This year the church is supporting Dementia UK. One in two of us will be affected by dementia in our lifetime.

“Families living with the condition are often left feeling exhausted, overwhelmed and alone. With your support, together they can provide vital specialist dementia nursing services, so more families can access life-changing support and live as well as possible, for as long as possible. Please support the festival and help ensure no one faces dementia alone.

“Team Tree at St Johns Burlington Methodist Church has contacted many local schools, businesses and organisations throughout the town and is expecting around 70 to sign up to provide trees.

“We’re extremely grateful for all the help we’ve been given to enable us to get the festival off the ground – it’s a great example of what a community working together can achieve.”

The event is sponsored and supported by Lloyd Dowson, Ernest Brigham, Bridlington Spa, Stenergy Electrical and Matthew Stabler (Complete Audio/visual)
