Scarborough woman celebrates 12th year as head judge at Miss Great Britain Pageant

Beauty pageant historian and author, Sally-Ann Fawcett, celebrated her 12th year as head judge at Britain's oldest beauty pageant.

Miss Great Britain commemorated its 81st year on Friday October 16, where Sally-Ann and her fellow judges assessed 65 contestants in interview, talent, fashionwear, swimwear and evening gown rounds, culminating in a final at Leicester's Athena Theatre.

The event saw the crowning of three new queens: Belfast's Yazmin Mclean won the Miss Great Britain title, Holly Pirrie from Warrington was crowned Ms Great Britain, and Ally Sussex from Surrey became Ms Great Britain Classic.

Alongside being a long-standing judge, in June, Sally-Ann released a book documenting the beauty contest, from its origins at the Super Swimming Stadium in Morecambe in 1945 to its current venue at The Athena in Leicester.

Also at the pageant was fellow Scarborian Lottie Stephens, a former Miss Teen Great Britain and current make-up artist, whose skills were in great demand at the contest.

Lottie, from Burniston, competed in the Miss International UK finals in Chorley this summer, where she was placed as fourth runner-up and also landed a prestigious Leadership Award.
