Edgehill’s Premiership title bid dented by draw at old rivals Filey Town

Edgehill’s Right Car East Riding County League Premiership title challenge took a stumble on Tuesday evening, as they had to fight back to claim a 2-2 draw at old rivals Filey Town.

The hosts took an early lead when Tyler Beck slotted home under the Edgehill keeper. The visitors responded after half an hour through 16-year-old right-back Theo Watson, who fired in from 25 yards after reacting quickest to a loose ball from a corner.

Filey regained the lead in the second half through an unstoppable 30-yard strike from Lewis Hunter.

Edgehill had a great opportunity to level when man of the match Theo Watson was fouled in the box, but Lewis Taylor saw his penalty saved.

The league leaders did rescue a point late on, Ryan Cooper heading home in the closing stages.

Edgehill were handed the win by Saturday’s scheduled hosts North Cave, as were Hodgsons by North Ferriby Reserves.

This means Edgehill are two points clear of Hodgsons, and the leaders’ only remaining game is on May 23 at home to Hodgsons, who have two matches in hand on Edgehill, who are in cup final action for the next two Saturdays.

Westover Wasps netted a 3-1 midweek Division 2 win against Bridlington Town Rovers 1903 at Bridlington Sports Centre.

Championship leaders Seamer Sports suffered a shock 2-1 loss at Malet Vikings on Saturday, Fin Sayers netting for the below-par visitors.

Scalby lost 2-1 at home to Division 1 promotion-chasers Goole United Reserves.

Max Tadman scored for the Otters, whose man of the match was Ross Lazenby.

In Division 2, Westover Wasps were handed victory by Saturday’s scheduled hosts AFC Skirlaugh.

An understrength AFC Eastfield gave their all in a 7-1 home loss against a youthful Bridlington Town Rovers Pandas team in Division 3.

The Pandas took an early 2-0 lead, however the hosts replied when Cailum Webster converted a penalty. A third goal was conceded just before half-time.

Despite several quality efforts from Aaron Holdsworth, the home team were unable to overcome a disciplined defence, and the Pandas added four more goals to seal the win.

Man of the match for Eastfield was Dan Bradbury.

in Division 4, Filey Town Development were handed the win by visitors Fishers AFC.
