Heslerton work hard to beat Dale, Goal Sports win 11-goal thriller

Saturday’s Newitts.com Beckett Football League programme featured both league and cup action across Ryedale.

The Victory Cup Group game of the day featured hosts Heslerton against neighbouring Thornton Dale.

Following a fine stop from home keeper Richard Gale, beating away a fierce drive from Thornton’s Hugh Dale, Heslerton began to make all the running and inside the first 10 minutes went ahead when Morgan Kendrew’s corner was only partially cleared and the spritely winger returned the ball into the danger area for Jack Balderson to power a header home.

The visitors however would find a route back into the game, awarded a penalty-kick which saw Gale get a hand to James Sawdon’s shot, alas not enough to keep the ball out of the net.

The second half would see Heslerton the dominant force for the most part with Thornton keeper Kieran Edmond producing a string of fine stops.

With only 15 minutes remaining however, Kendrew would have the final say with a strike from inside the box after great build up play from Balderson and Jake Allardice.

In the Gordon Harrison Memorial Trophy Division Two outfit Ryedale put up a great fight against Division One side Amotherby & Swinton.

The hosts went ahead on seven minutes thanks to Ryedale stalwart Chris Rhodes, only for his effort to be equalled by Jack Johnson for the visitors prior to the interval.

Amotherby's George Pierson decided the tie with his second-half effort.

Hospital Cup action brought a local derby to the North Yorkshire Moors as Danby welcomed nearby Lealholm Reserves to Easton Lane.

Though the visitors were on target a brace from Danby’s Mark Raw was enough to earn victory.

The only Division One fixture saw bottom of the table Rosedale head to Crayke to face Kirkdale United.

A scrappy opening half saw Rosedale’s Paul Allsopp head into his own net.

In the second half youngster Dan Robinson rose from the Kirkdale bench to double the hosts’ advantage before Harry Bowsher and Rob Galtrey put the game beyond Rosedale’s reach.

In Division Two, both ties produced a feast of goals.

Goal Sports continued their climb up the table with a dramatic 6-5 victory at Sinnington, though the hosts pushed the Scarborough side all the way.

Sinners took an early lead through captain Aidan Taylor with Cole Gayles doubling the advantage inside the opening quarter of an hour.

Brad Cawkwell then pulled a goal back for the visitors and then levelled the tie from the penalty spot.

Goal Sports then went ahead with a Zac Hansen strike before Sinnington replied with a goal from Ethan Dale.

Taylor then restored the hosts’ advantage as he too converted from 12 yards, only for Cawkwell to respond and complete his hat-trick.

Gayles then scored his second and Sinners fifth, but Goal Sports hit back with yet another equaliser, this time through Tyson Stubbings.

With just over 10 minutes remaining Michael Mitchinson ensured maximum points went the way of Goal Sports.

Goldsborough romped to a 7-2 win at Ampleforth.

Alfie Nicholls and Jack Simpson were both first-half scorers for the hosts.

However, a double from both Jake Hambley and substitute Ben Watson, along with efforts from Ben Duell, Dom Ingham and George Sault did the business for Boro.
