Heslerton earned their first win of the newitts.com Beckett Football League season, the Blues beating Division Two visitors Amotherby & Swinton Reserves 2-1 in a keenly-contested Gordon Harrison Memorial Trophy first round clash.

The visitors had not troubled the home defence, and Blues captain Olly Stanton scored into his own goal just before the break as he attempted to clear an Amotherby free-kick.

In the second half Heslerton stepped up a gear, with the visitors hell bent on defending in the hope of taking the game to a shootout decider.

Josh Wade, Tom Stockdale and Matty Bean all came close to a winner for the Blues but it was not until the closing moments that Jack Pinder’s corner was fired majestically into the roof of the net by Rob Ruston.

Top-flight side Danby soared to an 8-2 win against Division Two team Ryedale at The Mike Cook Arena.

The villagers took an early lead courtesy of Kaleb Gravett, but Ryedale responded a Brody Norton-Hunter goal but before the interval Gravett restored the hosts’ advantage.

That advantage would increase directly from the restart as Jack Dowson tried his luck with a little help from the wind to see his goal attempt sail over the seemingly helpless Nathan Brown in the visiting goal.

Harvey Clacherty then scored a home fourth before Gravett reached his hat-trick and then went on to net two more. Rhys Mould then chipped in with the eighth and final goal of the afternoon.

Bagby & Balk made a game of it before losing 5-3 at Division One Goldsborough.

Bagby breached the Boro defence with a goal from Danny Dobson and an Ollie Spence brace, but Jake Hambley and Dom Ingham, with a brace, were on target as the top-flight side won the cup clash.

Division 2 high-flyers Sinnington were the visitors to Division 1 basement club Newby who were grateful to keeper Ben Voase on many occasions.

After several saves scuppered Sinners early dominance Newby took the lead with a well-taken goal from Liam Atkinson-Smith.

In the second half Jordan Anderson levelled for the Sinners, which sent the game to a penalty shootout with Voase producing two saves which guaranteed his side a spot in the next round.

Kieran Grzesiowski was the man of the day as Goal Sports won 4-0 in this all-Division Two tie with Heslerton Development, scoring inside the opening five minutes before Fraser Wordsworth doubled the advantage.

The second half brought two more goals from Grzesiowski completing his treble.

Snainton won 4-0 at home to Fishburn Park Academy with West Pier recording a resounding 12-1 win over Division Two new boys Sleights.

Into Division One and an unorthodox midweek tie saw both Whitby Fishermen’s Academy and Lealholm Reserves not just competing against each other, but also the daylight.

Fishermen took a 15th-minute lead as Jake Faichney struck but inevitably it would be an ex-Fisherman that made the headlines as Brogan Russell scored two before the interval and a third in the second half to take all three points back to Lealholm.

Saturday action for Fishermen saw them welcome Kirkdale United, the hosts again taking an early advantage with a goal from Toby Wilkinson.

Aaron Cairns then doubled the hosts’ lead before Will Pepler pulled a goal back for United prior to half-time.

It would be over the hour mark before the next goal as Wilkinson grabbed a third but the visitors would soon respond with goals from Henry Walton and Euan Surgenor to level things up.

The pendulum then swung in favour of the visitors as Pepler grabbed a second before a fifth Kirkdale finish from Harry Bowsher put the game beyond the Academy side.

Thirsk Falcons were the visitors to leaders Rosedale, and though they were on target with strikes from Isaac Robson-Barwick and George Smallman the home side were too strong.

Luke McLaren smashed in four goals for the pacesetters, with Josh Butler (2) and James King also among the goals as the hosts won 7-2.
