Filey is taking centre stage in Surviving Angel, a new historical crime novel by Bradford-born author David James Buckley.

Set against the backdrop of post-war Britain in 1958, the story follows Acting Chief Inspector, Jim Bible, as he investigates the double murder of a husband and wife found in their home, while their 11-year-old son is missing.

The case quickly escalates into a nationwide mystery tied to wartime secrets and official secrecy.

In the novel, Bible’s wife and daughter travel to Filey for a family break, bringing the seaside town into the heart of the mystery.

Buckley drew on his own childhood memories of holidays along the Yorkshire coast to capture the atmosphere of traditional 1950s seaside breaks, contrasting the coastal setting with a fictional Yorkshire city closely modelled on his home city of Bradford.

Surviving Angel is Buckley’s second novel, following his 1956-set debut, Stone and Water.

The book is available now in paperback and on Kindle on Amazon.
