The Street in Scarborough to host free dementia awareness event
Charities Dementia Forward and Age UK North Yorkshire Coast & Moors are to host a free event to increase awareness of dementia and help people gain a better understanding of ways to support those affected.
Understanding Dementia will take place at The Street in Scarborough on Wednesday, September 30, from 10am to noon, and is open to everyone – whether they work in dementia support, care for a family member or friend, are living with dementia themselves, or simply want to improve their understanding.

The informative session will be led by Dementia Forward’s community education co-ordinator Fiona Andrews, who will offer plenty of opportunities for attendees to ask questions.
Members of both the Dementia Forward and Age UK teams will also be available to provide information on their local services.
Dementia Forward hopes the event will provide an accessible and welcoming opportunity for people to learn more about dementia, challenge some of the common misconceptions surrounding the condition and gain practical knowledge that can help people living with dementia and those around them.
Debby Lennox from Dementia Forward said: “Approximately 1 million people in the UK are living with dementia, but it is still not something that everyone has an awareness of.
"This event is an opportunity to come along, listen, ask questions and have conversations in a friendly and informal setting.
“You don’t need to be a dementia professional or have a personal connection to dementia to attend.
“We want everyone, in every walk of life, to have an understanding of dementia.
“So, if you’re simply curious to know more, please come along.”
The event is free to attend, but places must be booked in advance.
