Plans submitted for shops, including Lidl and B&M, on Bridlington coach park

If approved, the plans for the former coach park on Hilderthorpe Road would see new shops, restaurants, cafes and takeaways opening at the site, and an estimated 65 new jobs brought to the town.

The planning application, submitted by Hargreaves Property Ventures Ltd, includes 237 parking spaces.

It outlines a space intended for Lidl and another with an attached garden centre intended for B & M.

The plans would also see the demolition of the excursion platform at Bridlington Station, which dates back to 1892.

A heritage impact assessment carried out by planning and development consultancy Lichfields states: “It is considered that the demolition of the excursion platform would have an adverse effect on the significance of Bridlington Railway Station, though the replacement development would be neutral.

“It will therefore be necessary for any planning submission to both justify the loss of the excursion platform and weigh the harm caused against the public benefits of the proposal.”

A planning and retail statement, also compiled by Lichfields, states that alternative sites for the development on the edge and within Bridlington Town Centre were considered but none was deemed suitable.

It also states: “It has also been demonstrated that the proposed development would not result in any significant adverse impact, either upon investment in centres, or

town centre vitality and viability.”

It adds: “In relation to Bridlington Town Centre in particular, the development would complement, rather than compete with, the majority of existing facilities.”

The plans will now be considered by East Riding of Yorkshire Council.
